Education and Enrichment Scholarship Application

Picture
Fall 2025 scholarship application.

The Education and Enrichment Fund was established in 1986 as a way for the congregation to assist its active members and participating friends with professional growth. For the first seven years, the sources for the Education and Enrichment Fund were occasional gifts from individuals and small grants from the church budget. Applications were received and the funds were divided among the applicants. In 1995, the fund received a large contribution from Leona Barlow in memory of her husband, Ray. This gift was large enough to establish a trust to assist those engaged in educational or life enriching activities

Fund investments are held in a managed trust with guidelines to ensure safe investments in keeping with the beliefs of the church. A committee appointed by the church administers the fund. The Manassas Church of the Brethren is a teaching church. We consider personal growth, learning, and service essential to faith in the community. We actively support both Bridgewater College and Bethany Theological Seminary.
First priority is given to those applicants enrolled in seminary. Those attending a Brethren college will be considered next, followed by those attending college elsewhere. As funds allow, applications will also be reviewed for any other educational experience that enriches an applicant's spiritual life or the program of the church.

     Application Process
Applicants must be a member or participating friend of the Manassas Church of the Brethren.  An applicant may apply for up to $500 each year.  Total disbursements are based on the total fund balance and number of applicants.  This application is for one academic school year (August-July). However, applicants may reapply each year if the qualifications are met.  Applications must be completed and submitted to the Education and Enrichment Committee by May 1st. You will receive an email confirming that your application has been received.  After reviewing all applications, the Education and Enrichment Committee will contact all applicants via email with the decision. Awards are at the committee's sole discretion.   Any questions should be directed to the church office.
