Pastor's Study February 2019

I am excited for an opportunity to go to East Africa May 10-25 with New Community Project. This Learning Tour is an encounter with East African culture, vitality, hospitality, spirituality, and wildlife in Rwanda, Uganda and South Sudan. I will be able to visit a refugee camp in South Sudan and meet Second Step girls, who are young women receiving scholarships from New Community Project to further their education in

college or trade school. I will learn more about the 1994 Rwandan genocide by visiting a museum and will meet women and girls from the Congo to hear about their involvement with New Community Project

programs. Lastly, I will be able to visit Akagera National Park and learn about the environmental issues

facing this region. This trip is being led by David Radcliff and I will be able to earn Continuing Education Units to assist me in maintaining my ordination in the Church of the Brethren. I’m looking forward to this opportunity to learn and grow and I cannot wait to come back and share my stories, my pictures and my

experiences with you. To learn more about New Community Project, you can check out their website at https://www.newcommunityproject.org/. Below are pictures from the East Africa Learning Tour of 2017.

New Adult Bible Study

the Christian Education Ministry Team is offering a new Adult Bible Study in three formats: Sunday School, online, and Midweek Bible Study. The study will start in February and is called Epic of Eden: Understanding the Old Testament by Dr. Sandra Richter. It’s a 12-week Bible study that includes a video with discussion.

Dr. Sandra Richter jumps headlong into the Old Testament to clearly and powerfully communicate a history of God’s redeeming grace, weaving together a story that runs from the Eden of the Garden to the garden of the New Jerusalem. This class will bring a new dimension to the history of the ancient Near East, orienting any study group in time, geography, culture, redemption, and relevance to today — all without diminishing her reader’s faith or “dumbing down” the scripture. Visit https://www.seedbed.com/epicofeden/ for more information.

David Smith will teach the Sunday School class in the Fellowship Hall.

Pastor Mandy will teach the Midweek Bible Study on Mondays at 2:30 pm in Room 207.

David and Pastor Mandy will actively participate in the Online Facebook group.
