Serving our Community

Serving our Community

These organizations were kind enough to show our members ways we can volunteer and help our community.

Volunteer Prince William – It begins with the power of one! When we take the time to reach out, teach others, or empower someone to follow their dreams; we expose the true potential that resides in people of all abilities. Through numerous opportunities in the Prince William area, one individual can help a child learn to read, improve our environment, collect food for area food banks or provide companionship to an elder citizen. These individual efforts, over time, are what make a difference in the world. It begins with the power of one. Our Mission: Meeting community needs through volunteer resources.

Our core volunteer programs are:

ACTS (Action in Community Through Service) – ACTS fosters hope, provides relief and promotes self-sufficiency for our Prince William area neighbors in crisis. ACTS was formed when 13 churches came together in 1969 to alleviate suffering and hunger in our area.  Today, ACTS is supported by many faith-based organizations; local businesses; civic groups; schools; families in the community; Prince William County Board of Supervisors; and the United Way of the National Capital Area.  We embrace a client-centered approach to helping our neighbors in the Greater Prince William County Area deal with crisis, recover from trauma, and have their most basic human needs of food and shelter met with compassion.

As our logo suggests, we are optimistic about the future and are both here to offer a hand when the community reaches out to us, and we reach out to our local communities whenever we can be of service.  We work in partnership with our neighbors and build relationships with those we serve.

ACTS Provides Assistance for:

Northern Virginia Family Service – Northern Virginia Family Service’s (NVFS) breadth, depth and scope of services offer the resources and support to ensure that everyone in need, at every stage of life, maximizes their potential and fully contributes to a thriving community. We provide the essential building blocks for financial, emotional and physical well-being, serving as leaders and innovators for the Northern Virginia community. Every year, we empower 35,000 individuals to achieve self-sufficiency. With these essential resources, our community is better equipped for future success and engagement among all of our neighbors.

Women of the Hebrew Bible

Leader: Terrie C.

Room: 207

Using the Brethren Press Covenant Bible Study Guide, this class will study fascinating women in the Hebrew Bible, our Old Testament. All are noteworthy, some are notorious. Some are so obscure as to be forgotten, like Abigail. Others are so well known that we take them for granted, like Sarah. We will look at their lives in light of biblical context, in light of history and current events, in light of Christ and the New Testament, and in light of our own lives. Their stories will surprise you and challenge you.

Cards and Caring Class

Room: 209

This is a class where expertise is combined with hearts, hands, and dedication, for the purpose of serving the least amongst us. This particular group ministers in  a variety of ways. These include sending cards, knitting prayer shawls, making school kits for flood victims, and making hats and scarves for the homeless. Members of this class are connecting with people and their basic needs, while making a difference in their lives through volunteerism.

All About Paul

Leader: Wayne K.

Room: Old Fellowship Hall

This fall, this class will provide an in-depth study of an Apostle of Christ, Paul. Join in on discussions about the teachings, conversion, and ministry of this Apostle.

Real Life, Real Families

Leaders: Krista & Jared K. and Jen R.

Room: Executive Dining Room

Each family is unique as the individuals who make it up, yet all families face challenges and sometimes serious problems. This faith- based curriculum will help participants learn from the real-life experience of others and encouraging them in addressing family needs or problems in a healthy way. Some of the class topics include: Lasting Marriage, Getting Along with Your Families, Working Parents, Stay at Home Moms, and teaching Peace to Children. This class will be using a curriculum from the Mennonite and Menno Media Press.
